We have also fulfilled our other ethical<br/>responsibilities in accordance with the IESBA Code.<br/>To the best of our knowledge and belief, prohibited<br/>non-audit services referred to in Article 5(1) of<br/>Regulation (EU) No 537/2014 were not provided.<br/>Appointment<br/>Following the admission of shares of Scandinavian<br/>Tobacco Group A/S for the listing on Nasdaq Copenhagen,<br/>we were first appointed auditors of Scandinavian<br/>Tobacco Group A/S on 26 April 2017. We have been<br/>reappointed annually by shareholder resolution for a<br/>total period of uninterrupted engagement of 2 years,<br/>including the financial year 2018.</arr:DescriptionOfQualificationsOfAuditedFinancialStatements><arr:KeyAuditMattersAudit contextRef="duration_CY_only">Key audit matters are those matters that, in our professional judgement, were of most significance in our audit of the<br/>Financial Statements for 2018. These matters were addressed in the context of our audit of the Financial Statements<br/>as a whole, and in forming our opinion thereon, and we do not provide a separate opinion on these matters.<br/><br/>KEY AUDIT MATTER<br/><br/>IMPAIRMENT OF GOODWILL AND CERTAIN TRADEMARKS<br/>The principal risk in relation to goodwill and certain trademarks is impairment due to for example changes in local<br/>regulations, changes to excise duties, and changes in the strategy of the Group.<br/>Management prepared valuations of the operating segments Handmade cigars, Machine-made cigars, Pipe tobacco,<br/>Fine-cut tobacco and Accessories and Contract Manufacturing.<br/>Values for strategic trademarks with indefinite life are separately tested for impairment. Values for other trademarks<br/>are separately tested for impairment if indications exist.<br/>The most critical assumptions are the estimation of future cash flows, especially development in volume, average<br/>sales and cost prices, terminal growth, the discount rates and the allocation of and income to each of the cash<br/>generation units.<br/>We focused on this area as the determination of whether elements of goodwill and certain trademarks are impaired<br/>involves complex and subjective judgements by the Management about the future results of the relevant parts of the<br/>business. Refer to Note 3.1 in the Financial Statements.<br/><br/>UNCERTAIN TAX POSITIONS<br/>The Group operates in a complex multinational tax environment and related risks in transfer pricing cases with<br/>domestic and foreign tax authorities. Management is required to exercise considerable judgement when determining<br/>the appropriate provision amount for uncertain tax positions.<br/>We focused on this area given the number of judgements involved and the complexities of dealing with tax rules and<br/>regulations in numerous jurisdictions.<br/>Refer to Note 2.5 in the Financial Statements.<br/><br/>HOW OUR AUDIT ADDRESSED THE KEY AUDIT MATTER<br/><br/>Our audit procedures included assessing the Groupâs impairment model.<br/>We obtained impairment tests prepared by Management and evaluated the reasonableness of estimates and<br/>judgements made by Management in preparing these.<br/>We challenged Management analysis around the key drivers of the cash flow forecasts including the ability to<br/>increase market share and achieve price increases in declining markets. We also evaluated the appropriateness of<br/>the key assumptions including discount rates, short-term and long-term growth rates and performed sensitivities<br/>across the reporting segments.<br/>We used our own specialist to evaluate the discount rates.<br/>We tested the reliability of Managementâs estimates by comparing budgeted figures to actual figures for the past<br/>years.<br/>KEY AUDIT MATTER HOW OUR AUDIT ADDRESSED THE KEY AUDIT MATTER<br/><br/>We evaluated relevant controls regarding completeness of records of uncertain tax positions and Managementâs<br/>procedure for estimating the provision for uncertain tax positions.<br/>We discussed with Management issues relating to determining the appropriate provision for uncertain tax positions.<br/>In addition, we used our own tax specialists and evaluated the adequacy of Managementâs key assumptions and<br/>read relevant correspondence with tax authorities to assess the valuation of uncertain tax positions.</arr:KeyAuditMattersAudit><arr:StatementOnManagementsReviewAuditorsReportOnAuditedFinancialStatements contextRef="duration_CY_only">Management is responsible for Management Report.<br/>Our opinion on the Financial Statements does not cover Management Report, and we do not express any form of<br/>assurance conclusion thereon.<br/>In connection with our audit of the Financial Statements, our responsibility is to read Management Report and, in<br/>doing so, consider whether Management Report is materially inconsistent with the Financial Statements or our<br/>knowledge obtained in the audit, or otherwise appears to be materially misstated.<br/>Moreover, we considered whether Management Report includes the disclosures required by the Danish Financial<br/>Statements Act.<br/>Based on the work we have performed, in our view, Management Report is in accordance with the Consolidated<br/>Financial Statements and the Parent Company Financial Statements and has been prepared in accordance with the<br/>requirements of the Danish Financial Statements Act. The accident rate (number<br/>of accidents per 200,000 hours worked) decreased from 1.31 in 2017<br/>to 1.01 in 2018. One accident is one too many, and we will in 2019<br/>work to further reduce the risk of accidents.<br/>ENERGY CONSUMPTION<br/>The Group has gradually installed energy-saving equipment over the<br/>years. In 2018, the energy consumption in the Groupâs production<br/>facilities increased by 11% compared to 2017 primarily due to the<br/>fact that the reporting included an additional facility not part of prior<br/>reporting.<br/><br/>TOBACCO WASTE RECYCLED<br/>The amount of tobacco waste generated in the Groupâs production in<br/>2018 increased by 2 percentage points compared to 2017. The share of<br/>the tobacco waste that was recycled increased from 30% to 35%.<br/>REFORESTATION PROJECT<br/>Wood is used as fuel in the curing of certain tobacco types and is used<br/>for cigar boxes. In the Dominican Republic, we have for several years<br/>been actively involved in a reforestation project. In 2018, our employees<br/>made a valuable contribution to the reforestation in the local area<br/>by planting more than 2,800 trees.
