Natural rubber in bales — Amount of bale coating — Determination |
Describes an ashing procedure for the determination of the amount of bale coating present on the outside wrapper sheets of bales of natural rubber. Contains also a brushing and scraping procedure for the determination of the amount of bale coating on the outside wrapper sheets of all grades of smoked sheet rubbers. Replaces the first edition which has been technically revised.

Natural rubber in bales — Amount of bale coating — Determination |
ISO 1434:2016 specifies two methods for the determination of the amount of bale coating present on the outside wrapper sheets of bales of natural rubber:
- ashing method;
- brushing or scraping method.
The ashing method is the preferred method.

The tests are suitable for materials with a resistivity of less than about 108 ohm metres.
Method 1 is the preferred method when test pieces with bonded electrodes are not available.
Method 2 is the preferred method when test pieces are moulded with the inclusion of bonded electrodes.
Method 3 may be used if methods 1 and 2 are not suitable, but it has lower accuracy.

Rubber products — Guidelines for storage |
This International Standard give guidelines for the inspection, recording procedures, packaging and storage of products, assemblies and components made from vulcanized or thermoplastic rubber prior to being put into circulation.
It is applicable to both solid and cellular rubber products prepared from dry raw rubber, latex or other sources. It is subject only to the requirements or recommendations of product specifications in which details of storage requirements for specific products are given. This standard is not intended for use with raw rubber in bale, liquid (solution or emulsion) or particulate form, storage guidance for which is given in ISO 7664.
The recommendations for packaging form an integral part of the controlled storage procedure, as well as providing means of identifying the material and product.

Rubber, vulcanized or thermoplastic — Determination of tension set under constant elongation, and of tension set, elongation and creep under constant tensile load |
ISO 2285:2007 specifies a number of methods of determining the dimensional changes in test pieces of vulcanized or thermoplastic rubber during and after tensile loading for relatively short periods under constant elongation or constant loading.
The constant-elongation test is intended to measure the ability of rubbers to retain their elastic properties after extension, at a standard laboratory temperature, to a specified strain which is maintained for a specified time at the same or at a specified higher temperature and then released at the test temperature or at the standard laboratory temperature.
The constant-load test specifies a method for the determination of elongation, creep and tension set of rubbers subjected to a constant load at standard laboratory temperature.
The test methods are intended to measure the elastic properties of rubber in the hardness range 20 IRHD to 94 IRHD.
The creep measurement is not recommended for product design or the evaluation of low-creep materials. For these, reference should be made to ISO 8013.
NOTE The constant-load test is primarily intended for the measurement of state of cure and the quality control of thin-walled products. An increase in the state of cure or degree of crosslinking is usually reflected in a decrease in set, creep or crosslinking.

Describes two methods. The determination is important in the control of the quality of a rubber compound and in the calculation of the mass of rubber required to produce a given volume of vulcanizate. Does not cover the relative density of rubber. Gravitational forces under different conditions are observed and expressed in units of mass. - Replaces the second edition (ISO 2781:1981).

Rubber, vulcanized or thermoplastic — Determination of density |
ISO 2781:2008 specifies two methods of test for the determination of the density of solid vulcanized and thermoplastic rubbers.
Such determinations are of importance in the control of the quality of a rubber compound and in the calculation of the mass of rubber required to produce a given volume of material.
The standard does not cover the determination of the relative density of rubber, which is the ratio of the mass of a given volume of rubber to the mass of an equal volume of pure water at a given temperature.

ISO 2782-1:2016 specifies three methods for the determination of the permeability to gases of vulcanized or thermoplastic rubber under a differential partial pressure.
The three methods specified are as follows:
- pressure sensor method (using vacuum): for determining the gas transmission rate, gas permeability coefficient, gas diffusion coefficient and gas solubility coefficient;
- simplified sensor method (using applied pressure): for determining the gas permeability coefficient only;
- gas-chromatographic method: for determining the gas transmission rate and gas permeability coefficient.
These methods apply to vulcanized and thermoplastic rubbers of hardness not less than 35 IRHD (international rubber hardness degrees) and to both single gases and mixtures of gases.

This document specifies a method for the determination of the gas transmission rate and gas permeability coefficient of vulcanized or thermoplastic rubber under conditions in which the overall pressure on each side of the rubber test piece is the same, using gas chromatography to determine the quantity of gas that permeates through the rubber.
The method applies to vulcanized and thermoplastic rubbers of hardness not less than 35 IRHD (international rubber hardness degrees) and to both single gases and mixtures of gases.
