Adhesives — Measurement of adhesion characteristics by a three-point bending method |
This International Standard specifies a test method to determine the ability of a cured adhesive (if necessary with a primer) to adhere to a substrate with a certain surface finish, or which has been subjected to a specific surface preparation, using the "three-point bending method".
This standard is only applicable to quality assurance and only to substrates which are rigid or resistant enough to bending, such as steel or aluminium alloys. For other substrates, the thickness is adjusted to the modulus of elasticity or a suitable stiffener is used.
The adhesive is allowed to cure without the application of pressure in order to obtain the thickness needed to provide sufficient rigidity, otherwise a bonded reinforcing piece of the same material and the same thickness as the substrate is substituted for the block of adhesive.
This test method is not suitable for film adhesives.

Adhesives — Methods of preparing bulk specimens — Part 1: Two-part systems |
This part of ISO 15166 describes methods for the preparation of bulk specimens of adhesives. The procedures described are suitable for two-part adhesives such as epoxies, polyurethanes, acrylics, etc. The methods are not suitable for the preparation of bulk specimens of adhesives which require the evaporation of solvents or the liberation of gas for curing. They are also not suitable for pseudo-one-part adhesives that require an initiator to be applied to one of the surfaces to be bonded. In addition, the methods are not suitable for adhesives whose working life is very short, so that there is insufficient time to mix the components, dispense the adhesive and close the mould.

Adhesives — Sampling |
This International Standard specifies methods for sampling adhesives and related products, in order to obtain uniform
samples of convenient size which are adequately representative of the product being sampled. The sample or
samples so obtained are suitable for examination and preparation prior to testing.
The methods are applicable to products which require the addition and mixing in of catalysts or hardeners prior to
their application, by sampling each component separately. The methods are not applicable, however, to sampling
from a stream of adhesive (in this case the samples can be prepared in accordance with ISO 8213).
This International Standard does not apply to animal glues.

Adhesives — Guidelines for the fabrication of adhesively bonded structures and reporting procedures suitable for the risk evaluation of such structures |
This document provides guidelines describing the adhesive bonding quality requirements suitable for use by adhesive user-companies utilizing adhesive bonding as a means of fabrication. In particular, the guidelines define various approaches to meeting quality requirements for fabrication and reporting procedures, both in workshops and on site. These guidelines aim to convey the importance of maintaining quality standards in fabrication and reporting procedures, keeping records and thus enabling documentation to provide the basis for risk evaluation of adhesively bonded structures in service and in use.
These guidelines have been prepared such that:
a) they are independent of the type of adhesively bonded structure;
b) they are independent of adhesive user-companies’ and suppliers’ product recommendations;
c) they define the quality requirements for adhesive bonding in terms of fabrication and reporting procedures, both in workshops and on site;
d) they can be used as the basis for risk evaluation of adhesively bonded structures in service and in use;
e) they can be used as a basis for assessing a fabricator's capability to produce adhesively bonded structures fulfilling specified quality requirements when they are detailed in one or more of the following:
— a contract between the parties involved;
— an application standard;
— a regulatory statement.

Case 1
The provision of specific requirements for adhesive bonding in contracts that require the adhesive user to have a quality system other than ISO 9001.
Case 2
The provision of specific requirements for adhesive bonding as guidance to an adhesive user developing a quality system.
Case 3
The provision of specific requirements for references in application standards that uses adhesive bonding as part of its requirements or in a contract between relevant parties.
Case 4
The provision of a framework for fabrication and reporting procedures to a quality standard, suitable in particular as a basis for the risk evaluation of adhesively bonded structures.

Adhesives — Adhesives for floor coverings — Requirements for mechanical and electrical performance |
This document specifies characteristics for adhesives for floor coverings, which comprise:
— resilient floor coverings (such as those manufactured from plastics, linoleum or rubber);
— textile floor coverings.
Adhesives for floor coverings are intended for use within a building according to the manufacturer's specification.
This document specifies requirements for establishing performance characteristics of adhesives for floor coverings with regard to their determination, evaluation and expression.
This document comprises all kinds of adhesives for floor coverings irrespective of the chemical composition and the mechanism of setting. Products according to this document can be put on the market as liquids, pastes and film adhesives for floor coverings. The products can be one-component or multi-component.
This document also defines a special kind of adhesives for floor coverings, which facilitate the easy removal of the floor covering after the utilization and where the need for a permanent bond is not always required. These types of floor covering adhesives are referred to as low peel strength, release bond adhesives.
This document does not:
— cover adhesives for bonding parquet to the subfloor, adhesives for bonding laminate floor coverings and adhesives for ceramic tiles;
— make provisions for testing the bond strength of low peel strength, release bond adhesives for floor coverings;
— take account of all influences which may occur in practice.

Self adhesive tapes — Measurement of breaking strength and elongation at break |
This document specifies methods to measure the breaking strength and elongation at break of a self adhesive tape when it is subjected to a tensile force sufficient to cause it to break.
These test methods describe a procedure for testing 12 mm or 24 mm wide samples cut from supplied rolls of self adhesive tapes. Alternatively rolls of self adhesive tape up to 50 mm wide can be directly tested in their original width. In these circumstances the practical breaking strength and elongation will be typical of the manufacturer's cut edges. When newly cut sample pieces are tested, because of the better cutting of the edges, the results can be higher than would be found on commercial tape.

Paper, board and pulps — International calibration of testing apparatus — Nomination and acceptance of standardizing and authorized laboratories |
ISO 4094:2005 provides rules for the nomination and appointment of standardizing and authorized laboratories under the jurisdiction of ISO/TC 6, or one of its subcommittees, with the aim of establishing and maintaining the reference standards and distributing the transfer standards required to achieve interlaboratory agreement in the results of a test method specified in an International Standard for paper, board or pulp. It provides guidelines for the establishment of criteria for the initial appointment and continued acceptance of nominated laboratories.

Paper, board and pulps — General requirements for the competence of laboratories authorized for the issue of optical reference transfer standards of level 3 |
ISO 4094:2017 provides both general requirements and specific requirements (Annex A) for laboratories seeking to become "Authorized Laboratories (ALs)" and to maintain their Authorized Laboratory status for the issue of optical reference transfer standards of level 3. This document follows the requirements and adopts the format of ISO/IEC 17025, with the aims of:
a) establishing and maintaining international optical reference transfer standards of level 2 (IR2) traceable to an international optical reference primary standard of level 1 (IR1) maintained by a standardizing laboratory;
b) distributing traceability required to achieve inter-laboratory agreement in the results of test methods specified in International Standards for optical properties of paper, board or pulp;
c) participating in the design and development of new methods and international harmonization of procedures.
When a laboratory does not undertake one or more of the activities covered by this document, such as sampling and the design/development of new methods, the requirements of those clauses do not apply.
ISO 4094:2017 is for use by specified laboratories authorized to issue optical reference transfer standards in developing their management system for quality, administrative and technical operations. Laboratory customers, regulatory authorities and accreditation bodies can also use it in confirming or recognizing the competence of laboratories.
NOTE It might be necessary to explain or interpret certain requirements in this document to ensure that the requirements are applied in a consistent manner. Guidance for consistent application can be obtained from Technical Committee ISO/TC 6.
