Footwear — Test methods for whole shoe — Heel attachment |
ISO 22650 specifies a method for the determination of the heel attachment of footwear and applies to women's medium- and high-heeled footwear.
This test method measures three related wear properties:
the rigidity of the shoe backpart during normal walking;the amount of permanent deformation of the backpart caused by a fairly large force applied to the heel in a backward direction;the force required to detach the heel.

Footwear for professional use — Determination of slip resistance |
Slip resistance, expressed as the coefficient of friction of the footwear, is determined by placing the footwear on the testing surface (floor), with glycerine present as lubricant, applying a given load and either moving the footwear horizontally in relation to the surface or moving the surface in relation to the footwear. The frictional forces are measured and the dynamic coefficient of friction is calculated.

PPE ensembles for firefighters undertaking specific rescue activities — Part 6: Footwear |
ISO 18639-6:2018 provides the principles that govern the development of incident type and/or hazard specific test methods and minimum performance requirements for safety footwear for firefighters while engaged in specific rescue activities.
Footwear related to specific rescue activities, e.g. Road Traffic Crash, (RTC) and Urban Search and Rescue, (USAR) is documented in individual subclauses of this document.
NOTE For further guidance refer ISO 18639‑1.
The purpose of ISO 18639-6:2018 is to ensure minimum performance requirements for incident type and/or hazard specific safety footwear are designated.
ISO 18639-6:2018 covers general footwear design, the minimum performance level of the materials used and the methods of test for determining this performance level.
ISO 18639-6:2018 does not cover special footwear for use in other high risk situations such as structural firefighting.
ISO 18639-6:2018 does not cover protection for the head, torso, arms, hands and legs or protection of the feet against other hazards, e.g. chemical, biological, radiation and electrical hazards, except for limited, accidental exposure to fire ground chemicals and contaminated blood or body fluids.
Selection of the appropriate system of Personal Protective Equipment, (PPE), including footwear, is dependent on carrying out an effective risk assessment which identifies the hazard to be faced, evaluates the likelihood of those hazards and provides the means of reducing or eliminating these hazards.

Personal protective equipment — Safety footwear |
This document specifies basic and additional (optional) requirements for safety footwear used for general purpose. It includes, for example, mechanical risks, slip resistance, thermal risks, ergonomic behaviour. It also specifies requirements for safety footwear equipped with customized insocks, customized safety footwear or individual manufactured customized safety footwear. This standard does not cover the property of high visibility because of interaction with the clothing (e.g. trousers cover the footwear) and work area conditions (e.g. dirt, mud).
Special risks are covered by complementary job-related standards (e.g. footwear for firefighters, electrical insulating footwear, protection against chain saw injuries, protection against chemicals and molten metal splash, protection for motorcycle riders).
