This part of standard aids the estimation of the amount of oil remaining in the rubber. Triglyceride of ricinoleic acid is the principal constituent of castor oil (80...85 %). The principle is based on extraction of any free ricinoleic acid and conversion to the acetate of methyl ricinoleate. Extraction of any castor oil glycerides also present, hydrolysis to ricinoleic acid, and conversion to the corresponding acetate of methyl ricinoleate. ISO 6235:2016 Rubber, raw — Determination of block polystyrene content — Ozonolysis method ISO 6235:2016 specifies a method for the determination of the long polystyrene block content of raw uncompounded styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) and raw uncompounded blends of block SBR. It is not applicable to blends of block SBR with EPDM, IIR, CSM and other halogenated rubbers. The method is applicable to raw, uncompounded latices of the above compositions and is suitable for rubbers having block polystyrene contents in the range from 5 % (by weight) to 100 % (by weight). Rubbers having block polystyrene contents of less than 5 % (by weight) may yield incorrect results unless a correction factor, based on information gained by working with such rubbers, is applied. For rubber delivered in the form of powder, loose crumb or pellets, extra care should be taken because of the far greater exposed surface area. ISO 7781:2008 Styrene-butadiene rubber, raw — Determination of soap and organic-acid content ISO 7781:2008 specifies methods for the determination of the soap and organic-acid content of raw styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR). Method A is the titration method using indicator reagent. Method B is the titration method using an autotitrator or pH-meter. The methods depend on the extraction of the organic acids and soaps from the rubber by means of a specified solvent. In practice, therefore, it is convenient to determine both organic-acid and soap contents on separate portions of the same solvent extract. ISO 11089:2010 Rubber, raw synthetic — Determination of antidegradants by high-performance liquid chromatography ISO 11089:2010 describes a procedure for the determination of the following antidegradants in raw synthetic rubbers: N‑alkyl-N'‑phenyl-p‑phenylenediamine; N‑aryl-N'‑aryl-p‑phenylenediamine; poly‑2,2,4‑trimethyl-1,2‑dihydroquinoline. Extender oils, when present, can interfere. ISO 12243:2003 Medical gloves made from natural rubber latex — Determination of water-extractable protein using the modified Lowry method ISO 12243:2003 specifies a method for the determination of the amount of water-extractable protein in natural rubber (NR) gloves for medical use. The method is potentially suitable for the determination of extractable protein in other articles made from NR latex; however the extraction procedures and times have not been validated and will vary with the type of article to be tested. Other methods for the determination of specific proteins in medical gloves exist (these are described in an annex) but they are not of general applicability. This International Standard is concerned solely with the method of assay. It makes use of capillary-column gas chromatography with direct injection of the liquid sample. It includes a generic section that is applicable to all types of raw rubber and two annexes specific to particular rubber types. This method has the advantages of not requiring a solvent, of concentrating the volatile compounds and of introducing them to the chromatograph in a very precise manner. The compounds found in the raw rubber which are to be determined are defined as residual monomers, solvents and other low-molecular-mass compounds in the boiling point range of C4 to C12 hydrocarbons.
